Serpent & Dove Trilogy! #bookreview.

Hello Bookish People! Today I will be reviewing The Serpent & Dove Trilogy which was kindly sent to me by The Harper Collins Publishers in exchange for my honest review. Thank you Harper Collins for sending me the trilogy!

Book 1: Serpent & Dove

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Books: Serpent & Dove
Author: Shelby Mahurin
Pages: 560
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy
Age Limit: 14-17 years

Summary:

Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.

Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.

The war between witches and Church is ancient, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.

And love makes fools of us all.

My Review:

I did not expect this book to be so good. The story is set in the 17th century with magic, which invested me completely. I loved the way the relationship between the characters is changing and advancing from the starting to the evident end. The story has the enemies to lovers trope, which was well written. This was a quick read. I love the way the author showed Coco and Lou’s friendship. The main characters i.e. Lou and Reid are shown to be very powerful but in a different way. Lou is a bold character who is also soft at times. While Reid is a Chasseur who is daring. As this book has dual perspectives, it made the whole story rich in emotions. However, as the story is fast-paced, some moments felt very hurried in the story, making it kind of unstable. Other than that, the combination of Magic, Romance and Friendship was top notch!

Book 2: Blood & Honey

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Books: Blood & Honey
Author: Shelby Mahurin
Pages: 532
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy
Age Limit: 14-17 years

My Review:

The story took a huge turn in this one! The blood witches and werewolves were introduced in this book. The magic and romance are top-notch, but I was struggling with the pacing. In some parts, the story went with a slow pace, while in some parts the story was hurried. At some point, I couldn’t connect with the story. Also, this book ends on a cliffhanger and is heartbreaking. So it is continued in the last book i.e. Gods & Monsters. The starting of the story was not strong, but eventually, the story grew. I wasn’t that invested in the story because of the pacing. Serpent & Dove was better than this one. Blood & Honey was an average read for me.

Book 3: Gods & Monsters

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Books: Gods & Monsters
Author: Shelby Mahurin
Pages: 612
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy
Age Limit: 14-17 years

My Review:

Wow! This book was so good! I enjoyed this one just like I enjoyed Serpent & Dove. The ending was great and overall the story is wrapped in action, love and laughs! From Serpent & Dove to this book, the characters have developed well! I love the way Shelby Mahurin’s writing makes the readers so attached to the characters. The whole theme of this book is Hope being the cure and not sickness which was beautiful. I also liked that the side characters are unpacking their feelings and are developing. The author definitely did a great job writing this book. The only problem was the pacing of this book, which I have struggled with in the other books of the series as well.

Overall Review Of The Series:

Overall I give this series 4/5 stars. If you love reading about witches then this series is good for you. This series was definitely a rollercoaster and all the readers have very different opinions about this one, but it worked out well for me! The only thing was the pacing of the series, but other than that the series stood up well. Also, the covers of all these books are soo pretty! My favourite book in this series will be Serpent & Dove and my least favourite is Blood & Honey. Give this series a try!

Have you read this series? Let me know your thoughts about this one in the comments! I will be back with another post soon!
Happy Reading!
